The hemicellulose content of wood is between 15% and 30% and there is a variety of different hemicelluloses made up of different C6 and C5 sugars.
Hemicellulose can be further processed into barrier materials for food packaging, new biopolymers, sugars, chemicals and fuels. It can also be used as animal feed.
Nanocellulose is made up of nanosized cellulose fibers. It is a lightweight, extremely strong material with a variety of potential applications, such as a strengthening agent in paper and board production, for surface sizing and coating, oil recovery and as a raw material for new composites.
Alfa Laval offers separation equipment for both hemicellulose and nanocellulose extraction processes. Using our membrane filters, decanter and disk stack centrifuges we help you design systems to your exact requirements. Our equipment gives you:
