Turpentine is extracted from digester fumes. The fumes pass through a heat exchanger where the turpentine is separated out by condensing it to liquid form.
Alfa Laval’s spiral heat exchanger is the perfect choice for this task and offers many benefits:
- Cooling is much better in a spiral heat exchanger than a shell-and-tube thanks to superior thermaefficiency. This means the amount of cooling water needed to condense the turpentine is much less. Alternatively, you can use warmer cooling water or subcool the turpentine.
- High thermal efficiency also leads to a compact installation and low installation costs. Unlike a shell-and-tube, it is possible to fit a spiral heat exchanger to the top of a digester.
- Low pressure drop.
- Alfa Laval spiral heat exchangers are robust and require minimum maintenance.
