The number of sizes, plate and gasket materials and available options are enormous. Every detail is carefully designed to ensure optimal performance, maximum uptime, and easy maintenance.
High energy efficiency
- Flexible configuration
- Easy to install
- High serviceability
- Small footprint
- Low total cost of ownership
The Industrial line’s versatility allows it to be designed and configured for applications ranging from relatively simple duties with low requirements to very demanding duties with the highest requirements on both performance and documentation. The products are used for heating, cooling, heat recovery, condensation, and evaporation. Alfa Laval industrial plate and frame gasketed heat exchangers are used in a wide range of industries, from HVAC and Refrigeration, chemical processing and engine cooling, to food, dairy and beverage processing.
Alfa Laval T-Series
The Alfa Laval T-series is an extremely wide product range that is used in all types of industries. The number of sizes, plate and gasket materials and available options are enormous. Alfa Laval has completely redeveloped its industrial heat exchangers, setting new standards in energy efficiencies, reliability and serviceability. Shortly, all T Series models will be available with the new features.
- Eight patents and unique innovations to maximize productivity and lower life cycle costs
- Alfa Laval FlexFlow™ plate design concept improves energy efficiencies
- Alfa Laval ClipGrip™ gaskets and swing feet - simplify maintenance and reduce downtime.
- Alfa Laval CurveFlow™ distribution area eliminates stagnant zones and reduces fouling – optimizing the heat transfer area and pressure drop.
Alfa Laval M-Series
Alfa Laval M-Series is an efficient solution for general heating and cooling in hygienic applications. M-series are standard heat exchangers used in dairy, food, beverage, and other hygienic applications. They are competitive choices for hygienic processes and utility applications. This range of heat exchangers is used in the same hygienic applications as the BaseLine range, but the M Series is selected when higher design pressure or extra-long plate packs are required.
How it works
The Industrial line’s versatility allows it to be designed and configured for applications ranging from relatively simple duties with low requirements to very demanding duties with the highest requirements on both performance and documentation. The products are used for heating, cooling, heat recovery, condensation, and evaporation.
Equipped with well-designed features, the Industrial line of heat exchangers are easy to maintain and have a long service life. Some of the features available include:
- ClipGrip™ gasket – a glue free gasket with superior alignment that ensures a perfect seal and trouble-free maintenance.
- Glued gasket – a two-component, oven-cured epoxy glue keeps the gasket in place during any possible cleaning condition.
- CurveFlow™ distribution area – ensures full use of the heat transfer area and minimizes fouling.
Additionally, the pressure plate roller, the bearing boxes on the tightening bolts, and the 5 point alignment system with reinforced hangers make opening and closing the heat exchanger quick and easy without the need for heavy tools or the risk of damaging the plates.
Alfa Laval Industrial line is quick and easy to modify if process parameters change. Our team’s expertise and the availability of parts bring you peace of mind.
Plate types for different needs
Industrial line is available with four different plate configurations:
- Single plate with a chevron pattern design for parallel flow allows for optimum thermal performance and pressure drop.
- Single plate with a chevron pattern design for diagonal flow allows for optimum thermal performance through the heat exchanger when it is mounted horizontally and requires complete drainability.
- Double wall plate is used when extra care is needed to avoid mixing fluids.
- Gemini double wall plate is used when extra care is needed to avoid mixing fluids in hygienic applications.
5 reasons to use plate-and-frame heat exchangers instead of shell-and-tube
While some industry professionals are hesitant to stray from traditional shell-and-tube heat exchangers, here are five reasons why you should be using compact plate heat exchangers instead.
1. Save energy
Plate heat exchangers are up to five times more efficient than shell-and-tube designs with approach temperatures as close as 1°C. Heat recovery can be increased substantially by simply exchanging existing shell-and-tubes for compact heat exchangers. The result is more energy being put back to use, energy that would otherwise have gone to waste.
2. Save floor space
Shell-and-tube heat exchangers use significantly more floor space as plate heat exchangers (as shown in the illustration below).
The compact, versatile design of plate heat exchangers means that transportation, erection and installation costs are all drastically reduced compared to conventional shell-and-tube units.
3. Easier maintenance
High quality plate-and-frame heat exchangers can operate efficiently for over ten years without maintenance.
The heat transfer surfaces are easily accessible for inspection or mechanical cleaning, simply by removing the tightening bolts and rolling back the pressure plate. And special corrugated plate patterns ensure a high degree of turbulence over the whole plate, which not only reduces fouling but also makes cleaning very effective. Frames can also be opened using standard tools, and there are no tube bundles to be pulled.

4. Easy capacity adjustment
Plate heat exchangers make it easy to adjust capacity to meet changing needs, simply by adding or removing plates, while retaining the existing frame. This is a major advantage in relation to shell-and-tube units, where capacity is fixed at the level decided on at the time of installation.
5. Lower capital costs
Plate heat exchangers weigh less than 1/16th the total weight of shell-and-tube exchangers and use 1/10th the floor space. That means immediate savings on shipping, handling, and installation costs. And, PHEs can be assembled and disassembled on-site.
